Charlotte van Rijnsbergen, Underwriter Casualty

At DUPI, it’s all about seizing opportunities and continuous growth, and that’s exactly what I experience here every day. As a Underwriter Casualty, and formerly a Trainee through the VNAB Traineeship, I have made significant strides in my development in a short amount of time. Every day, I learn something new, both through my work and from my colleagues. 

The VNAB Traineeship was the perfect starting point for me. This programme gave me the chance to work at both an insurance broker and an insurer. At DUPI, I found myself in an open and learning-oriented environment. What stood out to me was the freedom to ask questions, share ideas, and actively participate. During the traineeship, I was given a wide range of responsibilities, from assessing complex liability insurance applications to attending client meetings and industry events.  

The variety in my work as Underwriter and the constant developments in the market make this role incredibly interesting. No two applications are the same, and there’s always something new to learn. For me, DUPI represents personal and professional growth. It’s a place where young professionals are genuinely given the opportunity to develop. I have grown not only in my expertise but also on a personal level. At DUPI, I feel at home and know that I can always count on my team. Every day, there’s hard work, but there’s always room for camaraderie and fun. 

Berend Jongbloed, Underwriter CAR/Engineering

The support I’ve received at DUPI has made a real difference in my development. I started here as a temporary employee, tasked with clearing backlogs, but I quickly had the opportunity to contribute to challenging projects. What began as a three-month role evolved into a full-fledged position as Underwriter CAR/Engineering.

The growth I have been through is the result of the unique culture at DUPI and the strife to help each other. With amentor figure I was taught to understand the technical aspects of the CAR insurance with a hands on approach. With this support I’ve had the chance to work on some unique projects, ranging from solar parks to renovating monumental buildings.

Every application is different and requires a tailored solution. Tackling technical challenges and finding the best outcomes is what makes this work so rewarding.

At DUPI, I’m given the freedom to develop my skills. There’s a perfect balance between independence and collaboration, with someone always available to brainstorm when needed. DUPI feels like home to me, here and i’m excited to continue building my expertise in this dynamic field.

I started my journey at DUPI as an intern, and now I’m a Underwriter. Here at DUPI, there’s always room for growth. Demonstrating your skills and abilities at work can lead to new and exciting opportunities for professional advancement. For instance, I had the opportunity to take the Transportation Law course at Erasmus University.

We’re quite direct with each other here, even about the less positive things. I believe that’s a good thing because you learn from it. If you have a question, there’s always someone ready to help.
We have a lot of freedom in our work, which is great. It motivates you to give your best effort, especially during busy periods.

From day one, I felt at home in the team. At DUPI, you get to know everyone quickly, even if you’re not on the same team. It’s really a personal company. And the fun part is, we do a lot together outside of work too and I’m always up for that!

Tim van Ewijk, Junior Underwriter CAR/Engineering

I joined DUPI in December 2025 as an Underwriting Assistant CAR/Engineering and progressed to Junior Underwriter within a few months. From the start, what stood out to me was the atmosphere. DUPI is a social and open environment where everyone is approachable, regardless of role or experience. That combination of hard work and genuine enjoyment makes a real difference.

Before I started, I thought CAR simply stood for cars. Safe to say, I’ve learned a bit more since then. My view of insurance has completely changed. I now see how technical insurance plays a key role in innovation. By taking on risk, we enable new technologies to develop and improve.

What I enjoy most about my role is the variety. Every day brings something different, and I leave work with new insights. Whether it’s technical knowledge, processes or practical experience, I’m constantly building my understanding. At DUPI, you’re given responsibility early on, which keeps me motivated and pushes me to take ownership and grow, while knowing support is always there when needed.

That team spirit also shows outside of the day-to-day work. I’m part of the social committee, where we organise internal events for colleagues. It’s a great way to contribute to the culture and shows how much value DUPI places on connection and working together.

Shirvan Loetawan, Claims Specialist Property, Liability and CAR/Engineering

“I genuinely look forward to coming into the office every Monday morning. That probably says more about DUPI than anything else.” 

What makes DUPI special is the culture. The atmosphere is dynamic, personal and welcoming. We work in a professional environment, but there is always room for enjoyment, ideas and personal growth. People are genuinely interested in one another and always willing to help when needed. It’s a place where professionalism and collaboration go hand in hand, and where people genuinely enjoy working together. It’s the kind of environment where you quickly feel at home.

Through initiatives such as our annual Summer School, a multi-day programme where colleagues learn from each other about different areas of the business and develop new skills and regular Lunch & Learn sessions, employees are encouraged to keep learning and broaden their knowledge beyond their own role. At DUPI, we’re driven to keep learning and improving, both individually and as a team. Just as importantly, people are trusted to contribute. My role as a Claims Specialist Property, Liability and CAR/Engineering fits perfectly within that environment. No two construction projects are the same, which means no two claims are the same either. One day I might be dealing with damage to a distribution centre under construction, while the next involves a claim relating to the renovation of a historic building. That variety keeps the work interesting and ensures there is always something new to learn. 

For me, it’s the combination of challenging work, continuous development and a culture where people genuinely enjoy working together that makes the difference. That’s what makes Monday mornings something to look forward to. 

Hedy Overdiep, Team Lead Fiduciary

Life at DUPI is always exciting, and for me, it’s no different. Even in my mid-50s, I’m still growing and learning. I started as a financial assistant and made my way to the role of claims assistant in our claims department. A few years ago, I was asked to return to the Finance department as the Team Lead Fiduciary. It’s proof that DUPI is always on the move with all kinds of new challenges and opportunities, regardless of your age. There are always chances to keep developing yourself. I enjoy every moment!

Melissa de Ligt, Junior Underwriter Marine Cargo

I joined DUPI almost four years ago for what was meant to be a temporary role at reception. Today, I work as a Junior Underwriter within the Cargo team. That journey reflects exactly what DUPI stands for to me: opportunity, growth and the confidence to keep moving forward. Before DUPI, I worked as a hairdresser for ten years and briefly started training in healthcare before my pregnancy changed those plans.

Insurance was completely new to me. I had no background in the industry and no relevant diplomas, just curiosity and the drive to learn. After starting at reception, I realised I wanted to deepen my knowledge and take on more responsibility. I was given the opportunity to move into Underwriting Support Marine, where I built my foundation and learned how policies, risks and the market truly work. From support, I progressed into my current role as Junior Underwriter Marine Cargo, a step that pushed me both professionally and personally. 

What I enjoy most is the variety. No two transport risks are the same, and new submissions give me energy. Every case requires attention, analysis and a tailored approach. I’m still learning every day, and that’s exactly what motivates me. You might expect a formal office culture in this industry, but at DUPI it’s the opposite. It’s a warm, open organisation where people genuinely support each other and where growth is encouraged.

I want to continue developing within underwriting and take on increasing responsibility over time, and DUPI fully supports me in following the necessary courses and gaining the qualifications I need. Looking back at where I started and where I am now, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I know this is only the beginning. 

Idske van der Linden, Senior Compliance Officer

I’ve been part of DUPI for over fifteen years. My journey started in 2012, right when DUPI’s MGA division was being established. From the start, I was given the freedom to identify what needed to be done and take action, allowing me to hit the ground running. 

Over the years, I’ve taken on various roles, transitioning from Manager Finance to my current position in compliance. In 2017, there was a need to further develop the compliance function, and in early 2018, I made the switch. It was a major challenge to build everything from scratch, but completing my training as a Certified Compliance Officer gave me the knowledge and tools I needed. Today, we have a solid structure in place. 

After taking a break to focus on my young children, DUPI provided me with the space and support to rebuild my career. DUPI gave me the opportunity to prove myself again, and I’ve felt both valued and challenged ever since. What I particularly value at DUPI is the flexibility and the balance between work and personal life. The work remains engaging every day, and I look forward to continuing to contribute my knowledge and experience to DUPI.
