Edward Bonsel appointed director of SMA Belgium
On 12 January 2026, Edward Bonsel joined the SMABTP group as director of SMA Belgium.
The presence of the SMABTP group in Belgium is currently based on two complementary entities in Brussels and Antwerp: SMA Belgium, which has been offering a complete range of construction, damage and liability insurance since 2017, and DUA Belgium, which has been providing the group’s transport insurance since 2024.
In his role, Edward Bonsel will be primarily responsible for bringing the activities of these two entities together under a single structure. To this end, he will draw on their respective human and commercial strengths with the aim of strengthening the organisation’s cohesion, brand visibility and market share development in Belgium.
Edward Bonsel will report to Florence Cesmat, Director of International Subsidiaries, and will use his expertise and commitment to provide long-term support to customers and usher in a new phase in the growth of this Belgian entity.
Edward Bonsel is a Dutch national, speaks fluent Dutch, French and English, and holds a Master’s degree in Law from Maastricht University (NL). He began his career as an insurance manager at the BESIX construction group. He then held numerous technical, commercial and management positions at the three major brokerage firms Aon, Marsh and WTW in Belgium and the Benelux.
